Lagavulin 360º Experience
Project Brief The Lagavulin 360º Experience was created to celebrate 200 years of Lagavulin whisky, transforming the essence of the Isle of Islay into a fully immersive, travelling installation. Designed as a giant barrel-shaped environment, the experience combined 360º media, sound, and scent to transport audiences into the landscape, distillery, and atmosphere behind the whisky.
Challenge The challenge was to translate Lagavulin’s heritage — its peat smoke, maritime character, and sense of place — into a contemporary experience that could resonate far from the distillery itself. The design needed to feel authentic rather than theatrical, using immersion and sensory cues to create an emotional connection rather than a purely visual spectacle.
My Role I led the concept, 3D design, engineering, and fabrication of the experience, shaping both the physical structure and the way visitors moved through it. The barrel form became both architecture and narrative device, housing layered media and sensory elements that worked together to evoke the character of Islay and Lagavulin’s craft.
Results & Impact The installation toured internationally as part of Lagavulin’s anniversary celebrations, offering audiences a distinctive, multi-sensory way to engage with the brand. The project demonstrated how immersive design can extend a heritage story beyond its place of origin, creating a memorable and emotionally grounded brand experience.
